Changes to Google’s Algorithm

Today, we’re announcing the completion of a new web indexing system called Caffeine. Caffeine provides 50 percent fresher results for web searches than our last index, and it’s the largest collection of web content we’ve offered. Whether it’s a news story, a blog or a forum post, you can now find links to relevant content much sooner after it is published than was possible ever before.

Some background for those of you who don’t build search engines for a living like us: when you search Google, you’re not searching the live web. Instead you’re searching Google’s index of the web which, like the list in the back of a book, helps you pinpoint exactly the information you need. (Here’s a of how it all works.)

So why did we build a new search indexing system? Content on the web is blossoming. It’s growing not just in size and numbers but with the advent of video, images, news and real-time updates, the average webpage is richer and more complex. In addition, people’s expectations for search are higher than they used to be. Searchers want to find the latest relevant content and publishers expect to be found the instant they publish.

To keep up with the evolution of the web and to meet rising user expectations, we’ve built Caffeine. The image below illustrates how our old indexing system worked compared to Caffeine:

Our old index had several layers, some of which were refreshed at a faster rate than others; the main layer would update every couple of weeks. To refresh a layer of the old index, we would analyze the entire web, which meant there was a significant delay between when we found a page and made it available to you.

With Caffeine, we analyze the web in small portions and update our search index on a continuous basis, globally. As we find new pages, or new information on existing pages, we can add these straight to the index. That means you can find fresher information than ever before—no matter when or where it was published.

Caffeine lets us index web pages on an enormous scale. In fact, every second Caffeine processes hundreds of thousands of pages in parallel. If this were a pile of paper it would grow three miles taller every second. Caffeine takes up nearly 100 million gigabytes of storage in one database and adds new information at a rate of hundreds of thousands of gigabytes per day. You would need 625,000 of the largest iPods to store that much information; if these were stacked end-to-end they would go for more than 40 miles.

We’ve built Caffeine with the future in mind. Not only is it fresher, it’s a robust foundation that makes it possible for us to build an even faster and comprehensive search engine that scales with the growth of information online, and delivers even more relevant search results to you. Keyword Elite For Keyword Success

If you are a new webmaster, you have to understand that keywords are crucial to your success online with a business. Many people start websites, and they don’t do keyword research. They end up choosing keywords that have too many competitors, and they never make it to the first page. There is an excellent software called keyword elite which will help you find the right keywords.

When you first open keyword elite, you have to choose a keyword that you would want rankings for. Then, the software will generate thousands of different keywords that are similar to the one you chose originally. You can then analyze the other keywords and find out what their search volume per month is. It is important to find highly searched keywords that no one is optimizing for.

I have been using keyword elite to find my keywords for a long time now. I am very glad that I decided to spend the money to get the software. If I didn’t buy it, I probably would have started optimizing my site for the wrong keywords. Since I was smart in the beginning and chose the right keywords, I am now making good money online.

You should understand that there are many other things you need to do to be successful after you do keyword research. To move up the search engines, you have to get backlinks (get 1000′s of backlinks now) to your website. It is very easy to make money online if you do what is necessary to get good rankings. There are some people that pass up keyword research, but you definitely should not. How back links affect your position in search engine results

Before putting any effort whatsoever into creating any web pages you should have considered how you intend to get people to visit and ‘consume’ your content. It doesn’t matter if you’re in business, indulging in a hobby or trying to inform others with your web pages you are going to want to attract the attention of other people. You need a significant proportion of your traffic to come from the search engines. If you are just starting out there is no better form of traffic than the type that comes from the search engines as it wont cost you a penny and it very targeted.

Search engines make money through presenting searchers with answers they are looking for. The more relevant and precise the search results the better the user experience and therefore the greater the chance the user will user will return. User loyalty directly translates to a stronger brand and higher revenues for the search engines. You and your web pages face a similar challenge.Position yourself in the mind of your users as a relevant source of information and make them visit over and over again.

So what should you do?. There are two paths to achieving this and the good news is you can if you have the money do both. You can submit high quality content to the web or you can use advertising often called Pay Per Click (PPC) or in the case of Google ‘adwords’.

As far as all of the search engines are concerned nothing exists on the internet without a keyword or a key phrase. The user typing a keyword or phrase into the search engine starts the search process. The search engine performs a look up on its enormous indexes to fetch a list of web pages that contain instances of the keyword and returns them in a predefined order of relevance. The search engines decision about what pages to display in the results are based upon two key factors relevance and authority.

Relevance means the page contains the keywords and authority means the page has back links to it from other web pages. Search engines calculate the position of a web page in a returned list of results by measuring the authority and number of backlinks to each page.

Back links are the most important factor in optimizing your pages for the search engines.

Back links have two key uses – influencing the search engines ranking decisions and directing traffic to your web site from other internet properties. Users will follow links they find in content if the back link is labelled with relevant text. This text in the back link is known as ‘anchor text’ and this too is taken into consideration by the search engines. Back links can vary in value.

Back links from web pages that contain content related to your web page have an impact on the authority of your web page.The higher the authority of the web page ‘sending’ the back link the more authority is likely to received by your web pages.

keyword rich websites domains, any benefits?

Today I will talk about the benefits of using keyword rich websites domains. There are a lot of myths about having a keyword rich domain name and how they help your ranking. Well that is not necessarily the case but here is a bunch of reasons why if you don’t know what you are doing a keyword rich domain could help you by accident.

The #1 benefits of using keyword rich websites domains is that most websites don’t allow you to set your anchor text.. and if you read my other posts you will realize that anchor text is now one of the most important aspects of SEO. With that said if your domain itself has your keyword in it, you have a drastic advantage over your competitors because you will easily be able to get anchor text links without even asking for it.

I know this first hand.. I owned a company called realpokertraining.com without knowing anything about SEO we gained a ton of traffic because the domain happend to include one of the top 4 keywords that our target market was searching for (poker training). I notice accidental seo all the time just like this. I guess it isn’t so accidental considering this is how google intended it

anyway the point is if you have a niche product and can find a url that happens to be your main keyword then it makes it really easy to score well in the anchor text linkback department because you can just paste your url everywhere and anchor text is taken care of.

Make sure you don’t neglect your other keywords you are optimizing for just because your url is your main keyword. Also don’t forget to optimize with anchor text for your main keyword either because google will only give you so much credit for a single string of anchor text being repeated. You also have to mix it up and have different words with spaces for example to assure you gain all the benefits anchor text linkbacks can give. Google put this check in place to stop people from using bots to spam out anchor text links.

3 rules on how to increase your targeted web site traffic

Search Engine Optimization is an easy was to increase you targeted web site traffic.

#1 how to define your targeted web site traffic

the first step in defining your target is to ask yourself.. What the clients that i’m looking for searching for?

after you toss a few keyword searches around. go to

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal to make sure a large amount of people are searching for those keywords.

or if you are looking for total domination.. this is the tool I use:

Make sure you focus on the ones people are actually searching for. This is the number one mistake people make when they write articles or try and promote a page. You can do everything right, define your product perfectly but if nobody is searching for your product with the description you give it then you need to adapt to the words they are using to search for you. This is especialy important for niche products.

#2 how to change your web site to be seo friendly to increase your targeted web site traffic

this is the easy part.

URL (the keyword needs to be in your url. example if you keyword is increase web site traffic make you title have those words in it like www.domain.com/how-to-increase-your-website-traffic.html)
Title tag (Put our keyword in the title of the page)
meta description (again put your keyword in the description)
head tag (your web site you use proper h1 tags for your headings this is the title of the page and should include your keyword)

#3 how to increase your web site rank in the search engines after doing the basics

This is another step that many people miss and where it becomes a popularity contest. It is no longer is good enough to do all the technical stuff to get ranked.
Here are a list of factors you need to increase in order to rank your page above anyone else. this will just be a list as I will expand on how to do each one of these steps in its own article.
In order of importance

total link backs directly to the page with the same anchor text of your keyword (anchor text is the text used in the link that links to your page)
Dmoz directly listing (super linkback)
Yahoo Directory Listing (super linkback)
how many .gov or .edu linkbacks you have to the page or domain (these are super linkbacks)
total link backs directly to the page
total link backs to the entire domain
Google Page Rank (many of the listed items above determine this rank)
Age (how long your web site has been indexed)
