Video Transcript:

Hey guys! Ryan Hache here, and in this video I’m going to show you how the new Facebook News Feed affects your marketing. So let’s dive right into it.

In March 7th of 213 Mark Zuckerberg and his team unveiled the latest revamp on Facebook’s News Feed, focusing on reducing clutter. Creating more:

Vibrant visuals

Having multiple-choice in the News Feed. As well as,

Making everything consistent across all platforms, including mobile and Tablet.

Another thing that they are implementing is these big bright Photos that take up the majority of the real estate. As well as, that overlay of text over the video instead of separating the two. This reminds me a lot of like Google Plus. It feels like they’re trying to sort of copy a bit of that look and feel if you’re on Google Plus. It gives you a lot of similarities there, as well as, I think they’re trying to promote posting images and videos. Just because they’re more engaging and people like to see beautiful pages.

And the more images that are in your News Feed, the more beautiful Facebook’s going to look. So I think they’re trying to promote that. And maybe possibly take a little bit of Pinterest market share away in the process.

What’s in it for you?

Larger pictures

Brighter colors. And for marketers,

Better engagement

You’ll also notice that status updates are now visually enticing. This is KEY because if someone connects with you. From a personal standpoint, if someone connects with you, YOU are now going to see their Cover Photo, as well as, their Picture. So you get this nice beautiful representation of them with their picture. And it’s just a lot more visual way of showing that Matt has connected with Laney. Okay?

Same thing happens with Fan pages. So if Matt is connecting with our Facebook Fan page and I have affinity with Matt, I’m going to see a visual from the fan page. So it’s very important that your Cover Photo has a good representation of what you are about. So if I’m interested in what you are about, as well as Matt, you are going to gain a new fan from me. So that’s very important.

Also, the Fresh Feeds allows you to select photos as an option. So you can basically turn Facebook into Pinterest and only look at photos, which is really cool. And I think a lot of people are going to be using that feature, which is again, going to drive up the engagement on photos. Specifically, aside from posts, so you’re going to see that number of people engaging with your photos go up. So that’s important to think about in the back of your head.

Of course consistency across all devices is just going to be a great user experience for the end user. Which just means – more people are going to be engaging on their tablet or mobile device. Because it feels and looks a lot like how they use it on their web browser. So that’s important to getting everybody using Facebook at all times. Which is good for Facebook and it’s also good for you because they’re going to engage with your posts from wherever they are.

So what’s in it for marketers?

Well we’ve been talking a lot of engagement, and ever since Facebook’s timeline update, Photo and Video posts have covered 73% of engagement. That’s huge!

And this among all the posts and is projected to increase even more due to the news feed revamp. That just makes sense, right? Everything’s kind of, moving towards images and video and making that more beautiful, making that more engaging. That feature that allows you to just browse through pictures is going to have a lot of Facebook users using Facebook like Pinterest. And just looking at the pictures, right? – Which is huge! This number this 73% number has to go up. – Which means, you’re going to have to change as well.

So let’s take a look at a couple things that you’re going to have to change in your marketing.

Number one is your captions. The captions are going to be overlaid over your images. Now if you post one. (And you should be posting with one given what you just found out.) Even if it’s just an update it should have been image behind it just to make it look and feel beautiful.

Captions are going need to be shorter. They’re going to be shorter more concise, you’re going to really need to shorten your headline about what the post is about. Get right to the point. And use URL Shorteners to make your URL’s shorter so that you don’t have a big ugly URL right across this guys face, because THAT is going to decrease your engagement in this post. I’m assuming they probably won’t let it go down too far. They’re probably going to have a “More” Link that goes over here just to keep it looking beautiful and stop people from doing that, which means if you have a link it’s going to be below the fold, which you’re not going to want to happen. You’re not going to want your link below the fold. You are going to want people to be able to click on it right from here. So that’s another thing to consider.

Now let’s take a look at Facebook Ads. For those of you who used Facebook Ads are probably wondering “how does that affect me?”

And when Mark’s team was asked, they answered with:

“The idea of making things richer, more immersive, includes Ads.”

So we can expect to see something change with Ads. Whether that’s the text overlaying over the image or something similar maybe they can be a little bit bigger, who knows? But, something is going to change and my prediction would probably be, your text is probably going to be overlaid over your image.

Similar to how the rest of it changes. But, they’re not making any announcements on that right now.

So again, same thing applies for your Ads, you’re probably going to want to shorten your Ads a little bit maybe. We can’t really determine what we’re going to do with Ads until we actually see what we have to work with.

With the Cover Photo, you’re going to want to make sure that you’re Cover Photos are obviously compelling like they should have been before. But you’re also going to want to test them in a smaller format. Some of you might have text on your cover photo. You want to make sure that it’s visually pleasing when it’s shrunken down into this smaller format that shows up in the News Feed.

It may be a redesign for your Cover Photo to make it a little bit bigger, little bit’ more legible when it’s shrunk down to this size. So that’s just something to keep in mind. It’s a great opportunity to show your fan page to people that have affinity with your fans. And you want to make sure that you come out and tell them what you’re all about. So that when your fans – when the social circle of your fans is affected. They can jump on board and see why they have connected with this fan page, so that you can gain a fan from them as well.

Another big push that they’re going to be emphasizing is the Check-ins and how often they show up in your News Feed. And there is some integration that’s going to happen with the graphs search that’s also coming. That is going to allow you to find local businesses, which means, for Marketers you should be getting your local business customers to be checking-in to your business.

You can do that in fun ways by giving a free offer or adding some sort of value to their experience when they show up and they Check-in. Maybe give them coupon, something like that. Just to push engagement and push check-in’s to your business. Because that’s going to allow people with affinity to those fans of your business to see these check-in’s in their newsfeed, another great way to create Social-Proof within your fans’ warm circle of influence as well as, just getting your word out in a way that is viral and free to the local business. So this is a great new feature.

The next thing I want to talk about is Pinterest. It looks like – as the owner of a Facebook Fan page, your job is going to be changing (if it hasn’t already) to be posting a lot more images and a lot more videos which means why not take advantage of the buzz around Pinterest and create yourself a Pinterest account.

And when you post on your Facebook Fan page with these beautiful photos why don’t you also post them on Pinterest as well. To gain a little bit more engagement from not only Facebook, but from Pinterest as well. Pinterest seems to be favored very heavily in the Facebook News Feed as well.

So as you post on Pinterest, your Pinterest photos and any groups that gain traction or any boards that gain traction, tend to show up in the News Feed of the people that you have affinity with. Just having Pinterests and posting your images there as well, is going to add more engagement to your overall fan page experience and your goals with your fan page.

So if you want to be ahead of the curve and take a look at the news feed. (It’s going to be coming anyways) So you might as well rip-off of the band aid and get right in there and try out the new newsfeed before anybody else does. Don’t wait for them to push it to you. I know that sometimes it’s a little bit of a pain when you get a new change to Facebook and they require you to change over, but it’s important to get ahead of the curve and get on the waiting list.

You can go to http://www.facebook.com/about/newsfeed and you can join the waiting list for the new newsfeed and you can be the first to get it and the first to start taking advantage of it.

I hope you got a lot of value out of this video. If you have any questions about Facebook News Feed, put them in the comments below and if this is on YouTube, put a comment below and give me a thumbs up if you like the video. Obviously, like it and share it and tweet it with your friends. So thanks again and I’ll see you next time!

A common question I get is..
“If I build a fan page or customer magnet, will it drive traffic to my website.”

The short answer is NO.

Making the customer magnet won’t drive the traffic..

But in combination with what I’m going to share with you in this post you will be able to get more out of your existing website traffic, build your email list and influence that email list to buy from you now and in the future.

Step 1- Create a customer magnet (a shareable piece of value content)

Step 2- Make your free offer available as a free first step on your website to build your email list establishing a relationship and point of communication with each prospect that visits your website.

Step 3- Make your magnet available on your facebook fan page to help your fans spread the word.

Step 4- Import your existing customers/prospects and give them your free customer magnet so they send you referrals
Importing an existing list of contacts from your email program (like Outlook or Gmail ), Facebook contacts, or another contact manager

Step 5- Share your free customer magnet with people by driving traffic to it.

Here are some methods to drive targeted traffic to your customer magnet with free or paid methods.
Over view on Attracting Customers with Information

In this video i’m going to show you an email marketing strategy that i’ve adopted that increases how many people read your emails and ultimately turns subscribers into sales.

I’m calling it the passive email marketing strategy that works because it is completely non aggressive way to communicate with your email list and I have proven that it works it in my own testing. It increases open rates, lowers spam complaints, gets you lifetime advocates and turns more subscribers into sales.

Show notes:
Want to use jing to record videos like this? -> http://www.techsmith.com/jing
Free email marketing system I use -> http://www.responsemagic.com

The premise of this strategy is to no longer pitch anything from your email list. I know you are probably thinking if I don’t every pitch anything from my email list, what is the point of having an email list?

Well the point is not that you are never going to use your email list to sell anything but it is to always provide value in your emails first and if you are going to link to something like a product or service do it passively in your article. This way your subscriber is never pressured to buy anything and since you always provide great value in your message you never have to worry about them ignoring your emails. I’ve already been doing this with the offers that I do select, however I’m going to be making a greater effort in the future to show you how to use what gets me results so you can make sure it aligns with your strategy before you decide to check out the tool or service i’m using.

One more thing you might be wondering is why I post all my messages to a blog and just link you over from my emails?
This reason I do this is that I want my message to be available online for Google searchers to find as well as like, share and tweet allowing the message to spread virally.

With that said please take a minute to share this if it helped you and if you don’t have a blog yet, check this out.

I decided to test the Von Restorff Effect after watching a great video from Derek Halpern and I just had to create this mini post to show you my results because they were pretty interesting.

but first take a look at the video from Derek Halpern.

Now I know in Derek’s video he talks about making your links that same as your call to action colour but I wanted to make a certain page stand out.
So I decided to just change one of the links to one of my pillar content pages to see if I could get more people to that page over the others.

To the right is an image taken right from my Google analytics showing the percentage of clicks each page got. There was a slight variation that you can’t see in the image because it got cut off. For example the first link in the list got a 4% click through rate but mostly all the links that were that same colour had 2 to 4 % click through rate.

But when you look at the red link. You will see a bump in clicks.

This works! Thanks Derek.

Here is the full article if you want to take a look. http://socialtriggers.com/best-color-for-conversions/

I’m often asked how I create better results from facebook ad campaigns to get the best bang for my buck (and for my private clients). So this is a special post I am writing for all of you that follow me and for the folks over at Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income Blog..

For all of you who are new, welcome and I hope I can help everyone get a better return on their money after reading these 7 ways to get better results from your facebook ad spend.

So lets dive in..

Use Eye Catching Ads
Despite what you might think, to save money you want more people to click on your ad. The more clicks you get on your ads compared to the number of times they show your ad, the higher your Click Through Rate (CTR) becomes. The higher the CTR the less you have to pay for ads, making your ad budget go a lot further.

Create a powerful headline
The better the headline the more people will click on your ad
Check out this post: How to create magnetic headlines

Get Obsessed with Targeting by Interest
One of the best advantages of facebook is that you can target people by what they are intrested in. Take advantage of this to target only people who you think are not only going to click your ad but convert from your ads too. This is crucial to not only to increase your click through rate or the amount of people who click on your ads but increase your sales too.
Check out my free facebook videos here

Test your Interest targeting
Don’t just test your ad copy or your images.. It is actually more important to test your targeting.
here’s a great video tip that shows you how to test your click through rate on facebook automatically (and its built in to facebook).

Be congruent
Make your ad match the offer you give on the landing page. Since they already showed they were interested in your ad by clicking it, if you use the same headline for your offer or landing page you are more likely to convert that traffic into likes, leads or sales.

Ask for a like
Sometimes you just need to ask. For most people the like button is out of sight out of mind. You can also give a little incentive or bonus if they like your page and reveal their gift if they do. This is called a “like” to reveal page.
Check out this post: How to create a click like to reveal page for free in 3 minutes.

Go for the opt-in.
Have something great waiting for them after they click in exchange for their email address.
This way you can continue to add value and create a relationship with them in the future.
Check out this post: How to create a customer magnet to increase opt-ins and build your email list fast

If you follow these tips you will spend less money on ads and get more conversions for your money.

If you’ve had success with facebook ads and you think i’ve missed something please add it in the comments!

Put your name on point 8.

And if you enjoyed the article show me by clicking the “like” button, re-tweet or just share it with a friend.

Cheers to your success,

In this post I’m going to answer a user question.

Lorene wrote in:
“Ryan, How do I find the best place to post an article”

I want to start by saying..

The best place to post an “original” article you wrote, is on your own blog, or something that you control or have the ability to capture leads from. If you don’t yet have a blog, here is an article that shows you how to set up your own hosted blog in 3 minutes.

However I think what you are trying to say is where can I post the link to my article to gain traffic and exposure to my article…

So i’m going to answer that question.

The short answer is.. You want your article on the front page of Google for your target keyword.

Here’s what I do to get there..

These are the first things I do after I post a blog post.

Share it with my facebook fan page by posting the link to my blog post on my fan page timeline

Share it with my twitter subscribers, I have my twitter account set up to automatically post my facebook updates to twitter. ( How to automatically post your facebook status updates to twitter )

Share it with my Google + subscribers by posting the link on my google plus page

Share it with my LinkedIn connections by posting the url on linkedIn

Share it with my Email Subscribers by writing a short description of the article and broadcasting it to my email list

This is a great place to start because as you build your fan base on all these networks you will gain additional backlinks from anyone who reTweets, Likes or +1′s your article. For example right now after doing this I have 5 backlinks from myself. But if each of these gets 5 shares, now I have 25 backlinks overnight!

Then if I am targeting a tough keyword I use a backlinking strategy that involves posting a lot of articles that all link back to my first article. The reason I do this is because the more backlink you get to your article the more change you have of getting that article ranked on the front page of Google. Article Submissions are one of the most important parts of my backlink strategy because it is the easiest way to get a large amount of backlinks for very minimal effort.

Here is how I do that..

I start by thinking what would be a good little article (200 words) about why you should do what i’m teaching in my first article.

Then I write that article I’m going to use to submit to the article directories.

Then instead of exchanging that one unique article with a website like ezine articles, I do what you call “article spinning” so I can submit that article to hundreds of wesites as a guest author. Most sites will only accept a guest post if it is unique content, otherwise they wouldn’t get any value from the article because google wouldn’t display it to their traffic. So in order to get around this problem you can use an article spinning service to create hundreds of different versions of your guest post article using word replacements. This creates hundreds of readable unique versions of your article.

The next thing I need to do is find partners that have authority websites that want to put my guest post on their directory or blog. For this I use a combination of manual submissions to the top article websites like ezine articles (see below), existing blogs I have created, web 2.0 properties like squidoo, and last but not least hundreds of blogs and directories automatically over time using Unique Article Wizard, Article Submission Software. When you post each of your articles on all these locations, make sure to include a backlink to your original article on the page you are trying to rank in google. Presto tons of authority backlinks linking back to the main article on your blog which equates to top rankings for your article in google!

Here is a list of manual article directories to start with if you are not ready for Unique Article Wizard..
Please note: The article directories have been cracking down on article spinning so make sure you spin your articles to at least 80% uniqueness. Or you can always write only unique articles for these top article networks aswell.

1. EzineArticles

2. Helium

3. ArticleCity

4. Buzzle

5. ArticleDashBoard

6. ArticleSnatch

7. A1Articles

8. IdeaMarketers

10. ArticleMarketer

I hope you enjoyed the article, if you did please take a moment to let me know in the comments or ask any questions.

Today i’m excited to share with you what i’ve learned about attracting and engaging new customers with facebook.

In this article you are going to learn..

The 3 steps to launching any facebook fan page and attracting new customers for free

Why you need to become irresistible and how to do it.

How to Launch and Get Fans on Your Fan Page Starting Today

Why you need to be showing in the “top news” section and how to get there consistently.

“the free way to attract new customers on facebook!” – Click to Tweet

Step 1 – Get Irresistible (the setup)

This is the first and most important step in the entire process of attracting customers with facebook. You need to create an irresistible offer that attracts attention from your target market. From this point forward all of your effort will be multiplied by how well you execute step 1. The first step is designed to step away from selling and start to think about attracting. The key to attraction marketing is to know your customer and give them exactly what they want. Here are three ways you can create an irresistible offer on facebook.

Create a warm custom welcome page
This is a great place to tell your prospect why they should like your page and what you are going to sharing with them in the future if they do.

Run a contest or sweepstakes
Get creative on this one.. I’ve done ipad giveaway’s, vacation packages and more. Just make sure to take a look at the facebook rules before you decide and try to make it relate to your target market.

Give a free gift in exchange for a like or Email Opt-in
This is my personal favorite. I like to pick the biggest problem my target market has and solve it for them in the form of an information article or video. The best part is its free aside from the time it takes to create the content and you can continue to give it away for as long as it stays a relevant.

Action Step -Watch this video on..
The Marketers Guide to Updating Your Facebook Fan Page for the New Timeline Changes

Step 2 – Get Some Fans (the launch)

The goal of this step is simple, get as many prospects, existing customers and fans to join you on facebook right away to create an environment you can grow from. This phase also creates social proof and allows you to attract new fans much easier. Here are tips for getting some fans right away.

Get help from friends and family
This is just a start but its nice to have a few people that love what you are doing to help you get a few likes and comments. Sometimes that’s all it takes to create engagement.

Tell all your existing customers
If you have a newsletter or customer list send all of them an email letting them know you are on facebook. Make sure you let them know what’s in it for them. Do this by showcasing your irresistible offer. Here is a great Free Email Marketing System you can use to email your customers using email best practices and collect new potential prospects from your facebook page.

Use in store promotions
Use in store signage, t-shirts, menu inserts, whatever is fitting for our business. Make sure to refer to your offer, you want to keep leading with your irresistible offer to give them a reason to go to your fan page.

Add your irresistible offer to your other marketing channels
If you are running a radio spot, toss in a call to action about your offer on facebook

Add your irresistible offer to your website
This one is easy, but don’t just put a tiny facebook logo on your website. Remind them again why they care, lead with your offer.. (starting to get why its important to have a really good offer?)

Post your irresistible offer on your other social media channels like twitter
If you are part of any other social media networks put it out there and get a link from that network to your facebook offer

Import all your existing customers and prospects into facebook
You can do this right on your facebook page where it says “build audience”. Simply click on invite email contacts button and follow the wizard to either import contacts from your email rolodex or by creating an outlook csv file.

Step 3 – How to Get New Fans on Facebook

The key to getting new fans is to have your status updates show up for the friends of your fans and the fans of other fan pages in your target market. To do this you will want to understand how facebook’s edge rank system works.

What is Facebook Edge Rank?

Facebook edge rank is the algorithm that determines what shows up at the top of your news feed for your fans. This is called top news. Although the entire algorithm is not fully public and we don’t know the weight of each factor, there are a few things we do know about how it works. We know that it is made up of 3 factors, here is the formula:

Affinity x Weight x Time Decay = EdgeRank

First I’m going to explain what each of these factors means, and then i’m going to show what you can do to benefit from each one.

Affinity – is the personal interaction score between that fan and the content creator.

How many times the fan has previously liked, commented or shared any of the creators content.

How many times the fan has @mentioned the creator

How many times the fan has interacted with the creator

Weight – is the non-personal interaction score of the content and content creator

How many comments, likes and shares have been made on the particular update.

How many comments, likes and shares have been given to the creator

Time Decay – is simply how long ago each “edge” was created. Tip: when I refer to edge I mean factor or advantage for a given piece of content. For example each like or comment is considered an edge and Time Decay applies to each one individually. This is how old posts can re-emerge as top news if it starts to receive more comments.

How many of the comments, likes and shares are recent.

How to get in Facebook Top News

As you can see the more engaged you can get your fans the more they will “like”, “comment” and “share” your content. The more they engage the better chance you have of getting to top news and getting even more engagement.

How to go viral on facebook

The more your fans that “like”, “comment” or “share” your status updates the better chance it has of showing up to all of their friends as top news as well. When they decide to engage with your updates you have a better chance of spreading your content for a few reasons. The first is that your content will show for more of your fans making it more likely for them to share, like and comment. Secondly when they directly share your content it shows for their friends or fans but also if they like or comment each of those actions have affinity between them and their circle of friends. This affinity between their interaction with your content leads their circles of influence back to your content where you might gain a new follower by direct or indirect referral.

The Goal

This makes your main goal to create as much interaction as you can with your existing fans so you continue to show up in “top news” for their friends, creating new connections from the social grid back to your brand attracting new potential customers.

How to create interaction or engagement on Facebook

Now that you know why we are aiming for interaction and engagement, lets talk about all the ways we can get our fans to interact and engage.

Create a status updates that induce comments.
There a lot of great ways to induce comments on your status updates. You can ask a questions, say something funny, make a controversial statement and more.. These types of status updates stimulate response, likes and comments.

Use pictures, videos or links instead of just text.
Video, images and links have been proven to increase engagement and hold more weight in the EdgeRank formula. If you don’t know what to use as a picture consider using an word graphic. You can create free word graphics with wordle.net

Answer your own question in the comments
Answering your own question can give people an example of how they can respond to your question or form an opinion. This not only counts towards your EdgeRank but it helps get more comments. Sometimes breaking the ice is all you need. The more controversial your opinion the better.

Like your own status update
This counts towards your edge rank.

Post daily
The reason I recommend to post daily is that it is a great way to combat time decay and it may also effect your overall page edgerank by having other recent user engagement on your radar.

@Mention someone in your status update or in the comments that might relate to in the update
It is often that when you are making a status update you think of a person in your fan base that you know is going to want to comment on it. Make sure they see it by using the @ followed by their name. This ensures they see it as facebook will notify them. Also make sure you assume the role of your fan page to make sure your @mentions show all the available fans in the list of people you can mention.

@Mention a fan page that is related to your update and has the same target fan base
This is the same idea as #6 but its a bit different as you are @ mentioning a fan page. Make sure you like the fan page before you @mention it or they won’t get the notification. This is great for networking with like minded business owners with similar fans. This opens the door to future promotion benefits for both parties.

@reply to comments with open questions
A great way to keep the conversation going it to replay with another question and don’t forget to call people out to comment back with the @ symbol and then select their name.. this again ensures they get a notification.Tip:If you want to just use the users first name you can, you just have to select their full name first from the drop down menu, then once it appears you can delete back to just their first name.

Revive a good thread
Going off point #8 when your thread starts to get stale on a massive thread you can @replay a bunch of the initial comments with an open ended or funny comment that changes the train of thought. I’ve seen threads start with completely unrelated topics end with something totally different. Don’t forget its just a conversation, conversations take turns.

Just ask them to share
This one is simple but is often forgotten, if your status update can help people or adds value just remind people that they can click the share button. Always remind them to share as the share button will post to all their friends and with give you the most viral value.

Recognize your fans for their contributions
Each time you recognize a fan for their contributions you not only increase Affinity with that fan but you make them feel good. A fan that feels good in your environment is a fan that will refer your page and your business to their friends.

Ask your fans to tag themselves in photos
If you do a live event where your fans are involved this is a great opportunity to get them to tag themselves. This also increases affinity.

Use facebook ads to take it to the next level.
One of the best ways to increase fans is to use facebook ads. Facebook has some key advantages that no other advertising platform has. The first is that you can target your ad placement based on interests which allows you to only show you ads to potential customers. This gives you a huge advantage, cheaper clicks and more conversions for your money. The next big advantage is social proof. You can embed social proof into your ad copy using real people who are friends with those you are targeting. Social proof is one of the most persuasive elements in marketing.

I think it’s important to attract “free” traffic on a consistent basis as part of your routine. Don’t you?

I personally like “building” traffic like I “build” income. The best kind of income for me is when you put in some work now to reap the benefits over and over in the future. By this I mean recurring income that comes in from that work month after month long after you finished doing the work.. You can apply this same principal to traffic!

Content is king

You can create a piece of content now and it will continue bringing you traffic month after month in the future. The more information content you create the more traffic you can generate as time goes on because you are exercising the power of leverage. You are leveraging your thoughts and ideas. There are many different ways to create leveraged information content both online and offline in many different modalities.

There is written word (books, courses, blog articles, web pages)

audio (pod casting, songs, streaming audio sites)

video (TV spots, YouTube videos, video sales letters, video emails)

I recommend starting with article marketing to convert your time into content, then into “residual” traffic then into sales.
The key word is residual. Once you create an article it will continue to work for you generating you traffic and leads long after you create it.The more you write in a strategic fashion, the more “traffic equity” you build. Here is a video that explains article marketing if you are new to it.. Article Marketing for Newbies

To perform an article marketing strategy properly you need a blog.

-If you are looking to start a blog I recommend first reading this article, on developing your unique selling proposition. by Corbett Barr from ThinkTraffic.net Corbett is an expert in online traffic creation using information content and I have learn a lot from following his blog at thinktraffic.com. If you want a step by step plan for not only starting a blog, but starting a blog that matters check out Corbett’s online course. Its an exceptional value for what you get at just $97, its a total steal.

-Next you need a hosted blog. Here is how to build a hosted blog in 3 minutes By Ryan Hache

-Get your blog ready to convert traffic into leads by creating a customer magnet and putting it on your blog.
How to Create a Customer Magnet Video by Ryan Hache

-Research Keywords in your target niche that have low competition, high traffic, high relevance and commercial intent. Order those keywords from lowest competition to highest competition here is a video on picking your keywords and making a keyword list. By Ryan Hache

-Document this list in a program like teamwork pm a great way to manage your list of action items and keep you on track

-Then take that list and convert each keyword into a “headline” for a blog post that contains your keyword. Check out this excellent headline resource How to write magnetic headlines by Copy Blogger

I also recommend reading this book on sales copy and headlines I think its 10 bucks.. its worth 10 times that:
The ultimate sales letter by Dan Kennedy

-Now you are left with a list of 10 killer headlines.. it’s time to Write epic shit (read this) By Corbett Barr from ThinkTraffic.net

-This step is optional depending on how much time you have but can allow you to tap into another great source of free traffic, Video. You can shoot a video about your killer blog post, post it on you tube and embed the YouTube video in your article. Make sure to put a link back to your article at the start of the description and a reason why they need to check out the article. TIP: (also make sure to toss in the link to the video itself at the end of the description just in case others embed the video on their site, it will give you extra backlinks.

-Now post it live!…

-email it to every lead on your email list

-email it to your friends and associates to share it for you. (you will do the same for them)

-share it! on Facebook, twitter, google +, linked in, pinterest, onlywire.com.

Now once your blog gets some authority, that should be enough of a push to get it on the first page of Google for a low competition keyword, which I recommend for your first few blog posts. Doing low competition keywords first will give your blog relevance and authority in the niche. Once you have that you can start targeting bigger and bigger keywords. If you want to really go after some bigger keywords you need to build backlinks to your articles check out my backlink getting strategy on this post the tools I use under Building Traffic to your Website or Blog Content and check out the backlink strategy that works by Pat Flynn (Pat Flynn is a great down to earth guy who is killing it online)

I know as soon as I started implementing these strategies it really helped me increase my blog traffic.

All the references listed here are A-list bloggers in the Internet marketing space that I trust highly.

Step 7: Find your google profile url.. this is easily found on the page you are already on. All you have to do in delete the stuff after the numbers like this.

leaving you with this -> https://plus.google.com/101050191310691294469

that is your google profile link you will use in the next step.

Step 8: simply add the following link code somewhere in the footer of your website. If you have a developer you can just hand this to them.

<a href=”https://plus.google.com/u/0/1010501913106912XXXXXX” rel=”me” title=”My Google Profile“>My Google Profile</a>

If you don’t have a developer, I’m going to show those of you who use wordpress an easy way to do it.

a) All you have to do is login to your wordpress admin panel and mouse over Appearance and click widgets
b) on this page i’m going to assume you have a widget on your side bar that either has your opt in form code or your social media follow buttons. All you have to do is add it right in there somewhere that isn’t conflicting with where your readers are going to be confused by it.

That’s it, you now have your pretty face in the search results and you are on your way to building stronger connections and attracting more clicks from the search engines.

As you may have heard Facebook has forced all businesses to switch from the old fan page style to the new timeline style effective march 30th weather we like it or not.

Lucky for you I have been testing an tweaking new techniques so that when this day was came I could share with you what i’ve learned. More importantly i’m going to show you how to take easy actionable steps to updating you facebook fan pages for the new timeline so you can get the most out of your facebook timeline fan page spending the least amount of time possible.

Why do you care? because your audience is on facebook and being where they are and up to date shows your customers you are willing to be transparent and involved where they live.

Before I get into how to easily update your facebook fan page for timeline in the shortest possible amount of time, I wanted to go over the top 3 questions on everyone’s mind that have been spreading about facebook timeline. These myths and truths should help bring you up to speed on what is really happening.

#1 – All reveal tabs are dead and will be shut down (false)

If you are not familiar with what a reveal tab is, they are simply a stand alone page on facebook where you give an incentive for clicking on your like button. These tabs are part of a strategy I teach to double your fans, but if you want more on that you will have to check out my facebook fan page here. There has been a stir around the web that reveal tabs no longer work or that facebook will be shutting down reveal pages in the new timeline format. This couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact they are better than ever, they look great and convert even better than they ever have.

#2 – You are no longer able to set your default landing page (true)

Yes its true, you can now no longer redirect new visitors from your home page to your reveal tab. You are still however allowed to link directly to your reveal page from your blog and you are also allowed to run your ads directly to your landing pages. If you are worried about people who find your wall through search no longer liking your page, don’t worry because I’m going to show you how to drive a ton of wall traffic to your reveal pages with the new timeline features that have just been released with these changes.

#3 – You can no longer show all your tabs (true)

This is true! Awesome.. People, this is a good thing. Facebook is forcing you to convert better, you should thank them. They have actually made the tabs into big graphical icons with text that you can now show up to 4 of on your main page. One of the icons is photos and has to stay put, but the rest are for you to use and can be used for your reveal tabs and like box. This actually helps us solve problem #2 and I will show you below how I have used both the photo box to get more conversions and the perfect configurations for your tabs.. keep reading.

Whats New when Configuring Facebook Timeline?

#1 The New Facebook Timeline Cover Image and Dimensions

With facebook’s new cover image is big and full of life at 851 wide by 315 tall pixel. You can even be clever in suggesting new prospects go to your reveal page while bringing a big presence for your brand to the wall. No more randomized images! Woo Hoo!

But be sure not to break their new rules though!
Here are a list of the new facebook cover image Rules:

No prices anywhere

No purchase suggestions

No contact info

No reference to the like button

no direct calls to action

Check out my my fan page to see how I suggest with a question without a call to action..

#2 The New Facebook Timeline Tab Layout

The new tab layout has been scrutinized but i’m a huge fan. When you give people too many options they are more likely to choose none. This is a prefect example of that. The old tabs were showing too many options.. if they want more options they can click the down arrow. Otherwise keep it clean keep it simple. You will notice I have the photos box, my reveal tab and my like box. You can have up to 4 on your home screen but I prefer 3 for 2 reasons.

I want to give them one option, my reveal page offer.

You get more room for the newly situated about box.

Another thing you will notice is that you can’t move the photos box. No problem, after you are finished uploading your images for the day just make sure to upload the good old start here graphic to suggest users check out your Reveal Page. This works like a charm. Here is that image if you want to download it for yourself.
http://www.ryanhache.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/start-here-image.png

#3 The New Facebook Timeline About Box!

This is one of my favorite things.. It seems so simple but it is extremely important. With any social network it is important to drive people back to your “money site” aka your corporate website or blog, you know where you take in leads and make sales. Don’t overlook this box. Use it as an opportunity to showcase your unique selling proposition and always start it with “Visit (yourwebsite) .. then your tag line.

#4 The New Facebook Reveal Squeeze Pages!

In this video I show you how to create a facebook reveal page on your new facebook timeline page in 3 minutes to attract more fans. You won’t need a programmer, designer or even a hosting account. Just 3 minutes and an imagination.

I thought it would be helpful if I created a page that cuts through all the fluff and gets right down to the tools I use every day to attract customers using information marketing. On this page I’m going to show you each tool I use categorized by why I use each one. Also if you want to learn more about a particular strategy there will links to articles I have written on the topic for many of the tools I use. Simply click the link to read the article you want to learn more about.

Please note: Some of the links shown below are affiliate links and I may earn a commission if you click on them (at no extra cost to you). With that said I use and trust each of the companies below and would recommend them to my best friend if they were starting business. Please only purchase the services below if they are going to help you achieve the goals you have for your business.

Hosting and Website or Blog Setup

I like to keep things simple. This step is all about getting a website or blog up and running that is going to open doors for attracting customers to your website and creating an overall good experience for your prospect that leads to sales for your business. In this phase you are going to need to learn how to set up your own blog, make it look nice, start building your email list with a lead magnet, and optimize it to convert your visitors into sales.

Bluehost – With bluehost you can have your own blog installation of wordpress up and running in 3 minutes with the 1 click wordpress installation button it has never been easier to create a “real” wordpress blog hosted on your own domain name included with the setup.

Woothemes – Beautiful Templates for WordPress

Response Magic – Your email list is the lifeblood of your blog it allows you to capture email addresses of your traffic so that you can influence them to read and share your new content or purchase your product.. Response magic is a great Free email marketing system that allows you to easily create a lead magnet to put on your website or blog so you can start building your email list fast.

Keyword Research

Keyword research is all about finding the right niche to enter into even before you build your website. This stage is a vital first step to starting any business and will save you time and money if you understand the market and the people in that market.

Market Samurai – Before entering into any niche, market samurai helps me find the keywords that people are searching for online that have high search volume, low competition, high relevance and commercial intent. Finding the right keywords to build your website or blog around and understanding how to optimize your website to be found in the search results is vital to the amount of targeted traffic your website gets and ultimately the number of sales you make.

google keyword tool – Google keyword tool is a great free resource to find relevant keywords with traffic and its free. However understanding how much work it is going to take to rank on page #1 of google is vital to picking the keywords you target. This is why I prefer market samurai.

Content Creation

Content is king! Here is the bottom line. Content is like Internet real estate, the more content you have on the Internet the more ways there are for people to find you given that you get it listed at the top of the search results. You absolutely want good content before you can think about getting is listed at the top of the search results. Otherwise you could be hurting your brand rather than strengthening it. Here are some great tools I use to create content aside from writing blog posts with wordpress. (which is my favorite by far.)

Jing- This software should be in multiple categories because it is such and awesome tool and its FREE!. Jing is a little button that hovers at the top of your screen that allows you to either take a screenshot of anything on your screen or shoot a screen cast video of anything on your screen and record your voice and screen for up to 5 minutes. It then allows you to one-click publish it to screencast.com or youtube and it copies the link or embed code to your clipboard so you can just paste the the link to someone or paste the embed code of your video on a blog. I use this tool everyday to create content or just communicate a message to my team.

Camtasia Studio – Screen Recording Software I use to create video presentations and record my screen to shoot training videos

Microsoft Powerpoint – Slideshow Presentation Software I use in conjunction with camtasia studio to create video presentations that I can post online.

Screenflow for Mac (I don’t use it but I would if I used a mac)

Keynote – Slide show Presentation Software (I don’t use it but I would if I used a mac)

Outsourcing tasks so you can spend more time doing the things your love

I primarily use outsourcing only for repetitive tasks, not creative ones. I want the absolute best content possible to represent my brand. Not that you can’t outsource article writing I just choose not to. Here are the services I use to hire and manage my outsourced and internal staff.

Odesk – Outsourcing Platform that I use to leverage my time by hiring outsourced contract workers to do my article spinning, manual article submissions and mass directory submissions to push up the rankings of my website and articles in the search results.

Teamworkpm – Project Management software I could not live without. This is probably the most important piece of software in my toolbox. I can’t say enough about it. It allows me to get the ideas I have out of my head and into an organized to do list that is shared with contractors, full time employees and clients! It allows you to priorities you actions so you can stay focused and on task. It allows you to collaborate with your contractors and unifies the communication files and instructions all in one place so it is very easy to manage a group of people so they stay focused and on task. A must have even if you are a one person operation right now.

Resources to find products to sell as an affiliate

Clickbank – This is a very large affiliate network of digitally delivered information products. My primary use of clickbank is as an affiliate. One of the easiest ways to generate online revenue is with affiliate marketing. Its simple to get set up with a clickbank account and you can start referring other peoples products and earn a commission on each sale.

Paydotcom – Paydotcom if very similar to clickbank where you can easily become an affiliate for information products as well has upload your own products to their affiliate network so other affiliates can promote your products for you.

Amazon.com – This affiliate network is massive and it focuses on both physical products and information based products. I use amazon to earn commission on books I recommend and electronics I recommend for people looking to do video or audio productions for marketing. They usually have the best deals so I feel good promoting them, its a win win.

Commission Junction – CJ is one of the biggest affiliate platforms and host a lot of big business affiliate programs like netflix and it is focused more on online subscription services like telecoms, skype, odesk to name a few.

*This next section is only for those of you who either have your own product or service or wish to create your own products and sell them online.

Product Distribution and Shopping Carts

Optimize Press – This software is great for creating instant squeeze pages and lead generating websites with wordpress. Fully integrates with wordpress and allows you to create product launches.

Digital Access Pass – Membership site software that allows you to sell a private membership subscription from your blog with built-in affiliate program for wordpress that works well with optimize press.

1shopping cart – Shopping cart software with built-in affiliate program

Payment Processing

Paypal – paypal is one of the easiest most popular payment processing services

Authorize.net – authorize.net is for when you are ready to accept credit cards on right on your own website without having to leave to go to a 3rd party payment processing service.

Google Checkout – Google’s version of paypal offers some great shopping cart features.

Accounting

In this article I’m going to be talking about information marketing and how to apply it to your marketing strategy online to attract new customers and literally sell anything to any market.

What is information marketing?

Information marketing by my definition is the art giving away free information on a particular topic that is in direct relation with your target market with the intention of attracting an audience, becoming an authority and building a relationship with that market.

Why should you consider information marketing as a part of your marketing strategy?

In terms of online marketing, information searches make up the majority of all Internet searches in all major search engines. Despite their lack of commercial intent buyers tend to seek advice about a product or service via informational search prior to searching directly for a product itself. This is a good opportunity to provide information to the searcher, build a relationship with them as a trusted source and offer suggestions thus eliminating their need for a second commercial search. This also means you get to influence the information searchers buying decisions in that instance. You also gain the benefit of being seen as an authority in that market and you get to help someone in your target market that could become a source of a referral or eventually a customer when they do need your product or service.

How to Use Information Marketing to Attract Customers

Here is a simple to follow list that walks you through how to use information marketing to attract customers to your website or blog online.

Understand the market your are entering

You want to make sure before you start your information marketing campaign that you “really” understand your target market well. A common mistake in this step is to target a market that is too broad. This poses a bunch of problems. First you will never be able to truly speak to your prospect the way they want to hear it if you are trying to speak to a generic audience. Second you will be in a much stronger competition bracket and it will be tougher to compete and you will need a lot of content. I recommend being extremely focused with your target market before you start.

Find what the poeople in your target market are looking for

The next thing you want to do is find what your target market is looking for by understanding what types of Internet searches are happening in your target market.
Create an information website or blog targeting your market

Creating an information website is easy and can be really fun.
Check out this article How to find your domain name and set up your website or blog in 3 minutes.

Its surprisingly simple these days to set up a fully customize website or blog.

Create free information content and post it on your website

The next step is to simply create free information content that solves the problems in your target market that people are searching for in the search engines. See the key to this as you will learn in the keyword research phase is to pick topics people are searching for that have acceptable levels of competition an high search volume. You can post content in multiple formats. Google will return results for written words via web pages and blog articles and it will also return video results as well. YouTube is now the #2 search engine in the world and more and more people are looking to YouTube as a means to solve their informational search needs. You can also use audio in the form of an iTunes podcast or Mp3 cast. I prefer iTunes because you always want to go where to big search markets are.

Get your content ranked #1 in the search engines

Ofcourse in order to gain the benefit from those Internet searches we discovered in the keyword research phase we need to make sure we are listed first in the search results to ensure we have the highest level of views to our information content. I recommend opting into my email list on the top right of this page if you would like to stay on top of the latest trends in search marketing and getting your pages ranked #1. Or Check out this post if you are new to the concepts of search engine optimization “Introduction to Search Engine Optimization Basics”

Sell the click

Once you are ranked high in the search engines you want be be interesting and stand out from the sea of other results. You want to sell the click. You want them to chose you out of the 10 options they see in front of them. We do this by creating a headline for you post that attracts people to read it.

Your customer consumes your content

When you write content make sure it is the best content you can write. Don’t hold back because this is a crucial part of building a relationship. If you were in a meeting with someone and trying to show them you know what you are talking about would you hold back? No, ofcourse not so don’t do it in your information. Be real and be helpful. I like to think of it as giving advice to a friend. Treat people right, the world will be a better place and it all comes back around.

Your lead magnet

Once you get traffic back to your blog you need to provide some over the top epic value that you would normally charge for, for free in exchange for the prospects email address. It isn’t enough to just have a place on the page to join your mailing list. You need to give them a reason to take action. So here is where I remind you that I have a lead magnet on this very page in the top right hand corner. My list gets my blog updates with great posts just like this one when they come out as well as I show you how to attract customers and find un-tapped traffic sources with my in depth research video training course, which is free! So don’t forget to join me. Also Here is another free video where I show you step by step how to create a lead magnet for yourself.

Your email list should provide exceptional value

Email market has gone from you’ve got mail, to you’ve got spam. So don’t be someone who provides non stop sales messages. You want your list to respond to you when you need their feedback and be happy to open your emails. You should always send 5 times more value than you ever ask for anything in return. Many Internet marketers are moving away from direct selling from their email list all together. Now this don’t mean don’t sell anything, it just means provide value and make recommendations. Don’t just don’t over sell.

I decided to write this blog post today because I have been getting a lot of people asking me how to setup a blog and it seems to hold a lot of people up when it comes to tapping into search engines. Or sometimes I see a lot of people deciding to take what they think is a shortcut and post their articles on blogger or wordpress.com. Now before I get into showing you how to get everything set up in 3 minutes I want to give you a few good reasons why you should decide to host your own blog instead of using typepad, wordpress.com or blogger.

When you install wordpress on your own server you get:

Full control over the design in the future or right now.

Unlimited plugins you can install.

You own the authority you create, this is huge when you are going to spend time building authority to your blog you should be in control of where your authority is directed.

You can sell your site for more money if you choose.

You look more professional

I’m sure their are a bunch more that I forgot please add them to the comments if you can come up with a few more I forgot and I’ll add them in.

Ok so now that you know why you need to host your blog lets talk about what you are going to need to do.

1. pick a domain name 2. pick a server to host your blog 3. install wordpress on your blog 4. install a wordpress theme on your blog

I recommend using bluehost because it’s only $5.95/month allows you to do all 4 of these steps easily in 3 minutes and it is super simple.

Now before you click on the link to go to bluehost to set up your blog i want to make sure you think about the domain you choose. Selecting your domain name can strongly impact your search engine rankings. If your domain name has your primary keywords that you are targeting in it people tend to link to your like this Keyword blog by ryan hache or just link to you with your keyword because it is the name of your blog. The reason this is important is because each time someone links to you with your keyword in the anchor text you get a bump in rank from the search engines.

Example: If you were making a dog training blog and your domain was bestdogtraining.com a lot of people would link to you with best dog training as their anchor text or “the text in their link”..

Your other choice is to try and get your name. this is a popular choice because it allows you to brand yourself over and over. It also secures your name in google so you are the only thing that shows up when someone googles your name. This can be great after you become a household name

Ok so lets get started:

Go to bluehost.com or click my affiliate link to help support the blog at no cost to you

click the sign up button

pick a domain name

enter your account information to get started

when you login for the first time scroll to the bottom where you will find an icon that says install wordpress. ITS THAT EASY!

Resources:
If you want to make your blog look really professional you can use woo themes to pick a wordpress theme designed by some of the best designers online! I use a woo theme called “fresh news”

When you make custom facebook pages it is important to understand that you are doing so to connect with new customers and spread the word about your offer. The best way to do that is to tap into the facebook grid and spread your message viral… So how do you do that?
The first thing you want to do is make sure that you have a high level of people clicking the “like” button on you page. What this will do is ensure that more people are seeing your page because each time someone clicks like it shows this interaction with that prospects circle of friends. Another thing that happens when you click the like button is that is increases the number of likes on your page making your page show up higher in the facebook search results. So now that we know we need more “likes” to go viral how do we create facebook pages that make you viral by getting more likes. The answer is to create what I like to call a “facebook reveal tab” a facebook reveal tab is similar to a “squeeze page” or “landing page” on facebook that incentivizes the user to click the “like” button on your facebook page. Take a look at this video below to learn how to create a custom facebook reveal tab for your business with no hosting, no design experience for free! The video is going to show you where to get the software for free to get it all set up, Hope you enjoy!

free facebook page reveal tab software allows you to create a facebook fan page like the pro’s in 3 minutes with no designer and no hosting account!

Get free video training here with free access to the software

The best way to get a ton of raving fans to your website is to allow your website to be shared virally. Well the best way to allow your facebook fan page to be shared virally is to get as many “likes” as possible. Each time someone likes your fan page it shows up in the news feed of all their friends allowing those friends to now like your page aswell. So with that said you need to make sure you are optimized to get as many likes as possible and the best way to do that is to create a facebook “reveal” page or facebook “reveal” tab. This is a when you show your prospect a custom landing page that has an offer to your prospect to “reveal” them somthing if they click like. This takes just a few seconds for the prospect and provides a way for you to spread your influence virally over facebook at a rapid rate. Click here to get the free facebook page reveal tab software and training.
